Issue: Opt in popups not showing up on WordPress page

If you are having an issue with opt in popups not showing up on WordPress pages as you’d expect, it’s usually a setting change to get it working correctly. Check each of the settings in this tutorial. Remember to always test your opt in on an incognito or private browser.

What causes the issue?

This issue is usually caused by the display settings being incorrect or using a standard browser for testing instead of an incognito or private browser.

How to fix the issue

In most cases, the display settings can be adjusted to resolve the issue.

Page and posts settings

Issue: you’ve configured the popup, but it isn’t showing up on the page.

Step 1: Select your pages and posts

Go to: PopupAlly > Select the popup that isn’t showing up > Display settings > scroll down to “Show this popup on which posts/pages”?

There are three options you can select here. One of these options has to be selected. If more than one is selected, the popup will not display on the page(s) as expected.

Option 1:
Show for all posts and pages sitewide. When this option is checked, the popup will show on every page and post.

Option 2:
Check the box for “show for all posts and pages sitewide”, then select specific pages to exclude.

Important note: If you check the box for all posts and pages, then select “All pages” or “All Posts” under the exclusions, this is an error. The popup will not show on any page with these settings selected.

Option 3:
Select specific pages and/or posts for the popup to show. In the pages and posts lists, you can check the box next to an individual post or page.

Step 2: Testing

Test the pop up on an incognito or private browser.

2. Embedded pop up settings

Issue: You’ve created a popup and selected the embedded pop up option, but it’s not showing up on the page.

There are two settings that need to be configured for a popup to display.

Step 1: Configure Embedded opt in settings

Go to: PopupAlly > Select the popup > Display settings > Embedded opt-in > check the Embedded sign up box

Step 2: Select sign up box setting

Configure your show sign up box at setting to either “Use shortcode ” or “Use PopupAlly Pro Widget

Step 3: Select pages and/or posts

Select which pages or posts this embedded opt in will be displayed. (Select 1 of the 3 options from the first section of this article.)

Important note: Both these settings must be configured for an embedded opt in to display on a page.

Step 4: Test
After both settings are configured, test the page in an incognito browser.

3. Timing settings

Issue: If you’ve already seen the popup once, and it’s not showing up again, check your timing settings and use two possible workarounds to see it again.

Step 1: Set popup frequency for testing

Go to: PopupAlly > Select the popup > Display settings > How to stop showing this popup > Show popup every > set to -1 for testing

Note: If you’ve already seen the popup, this change will not make the popup appear again.

Here are two workarounds:
Option 1 (recommended): Use an incognito or private browser to test the popup
Option 2: Clear your cache and cookies

Step 2: Test the popup
Test the popup on an incognito or private browser

Step 3: Set popup frequency after testing
Go back to Show popup every > change this back to [xx] days

4. Thank you page settings

Issue: If you’ve configured the Show Thank You Page Setup settings to stop showing a pop up after someone opts in, this setting could be why you’re not seeing it for testing. If you’ve already seen the thank you page during testing, this setting will not let you see it again.

You can use the same two workarounds as mentioned in Step 3:
Option 1 (recommended): Use an incognito or private browser to test the popup
Option 2: Clear your cache and cookies

5. Frontpage settings

Issue: You’ve configured your popup to display on your homepage or front page (as explained in Step 1), but it’s still not showing up.

Step 1: Select front page

Go to: PopupAlly > Select the popup > Display settings > scroll down to “Show this popup on which posts/pages”? > Select “Front Page” under Special pages and the name of the page in the page list

Note: both boxes must be checked for the popup to display on the front page.
